The US embassy in Libya confirmed, that it supports the "mandate of the National Oil Corporation" on behalf of all the Libyan people.
"The embassy reiterates the United States' support for the National Oil Corporation while it carries out its mandate in a politically and technocratic manner on behalf of all Libyans," the embassy added, in a statement published on its website. It highlighted the "rapid movement of the Libyan forces in response to the armed incursion that targeted the headquarters of the National Oil Corporation" on Monday.
"We affirm that attempts by armed groups, political factions or other institutions to pressure the employees of the National Oil Corporation or impede the transparent management of the energy sector completely contradict the aspirations of Libyans for a brighter and more prosperous future," the statement added.
The US embassy’s statement comes after an attempt by “armed outlaw gangs” to storm the National Oil Corporation building in the capital, Tripoli.
