Within a day or less of the controversial video of the head of the National Oil Corporation in Libya, in which he threatened to freeze oil revenues, the head of the Government of National Accord, Fayez al-Sarraj, called for an urgent meeting of the heads of the country's sovereign institutions.
In an official letter sent to the President of the Supreme Council of the State, the Governor of the Central Bank of Libya, the President of the National Oil Corporation, the President of the Supreme Judicial Council, and heads of other sovereign institutions, Al-Sarraj stated "In reference to the exceptional circumstances the country is witnessing, at the political and economic level, and out of legal and historical responsibility, you are invited to attend the face-to-face meeting scheduled for Tuesday morning."
The letter added that the meeting will discuss "the repercussions and implications of the process of freezing oil revenues, and proposing effective solutions to the crisis in order to spare Libya the risks of wars and further fragmentation and separation."
Al-Sarraj's urgent message comes after the Chairman of the Board of Directors of the Libyan National Oil Corporation, Mustafa Sanallah, published a video on Facebook, in which he sharply criticized the Governor of the Central Bank of Libya, Al-Siddiq Al-Kabeer, blaming him for "wasting billions" of the Libyan people's money.
Sanalla said, in the video, that the Libyan Central Bank became a "cash cow", adding that there are people who have turned into "dinosaurs" and "monsters" as they became rich with this money.
He asked, "Where have the 186 billion oil revenues gone in recent years that were referred to the Central Bank? Have the lives of the Libyans improved? Have the lines ended?"
